What are your family origins? How far back to they go? Role of ancestors?
It’s important to know where you come from, what your ancestors believed in. And when you die, you leave something in the world that will be meaningful to someone.
Family origins are German and Polish European. These are becoming less and less important where I live now as those languages and culture brought to America by my ancestors are no longer the way to communicate. As for the mores of my ancestors and hopes of my ancestors, these continue and efforts are made to have the next generation display and express these. I often remind myself of my ancestors to keep myself above the fray.
My maternal family came to the US two generations ago from Italy. My father’s family is from Russia. I feel that the role of my ancestors do not play a big part in my life. My family uses a few phrases and terms of endearment in Italian, and we also eat and cook a lot of Italian food. I always talk to my grandma about what it was like living in such a large family, and what it was like in Italy, so I am able to learn a lot about the culture, which I enjoy. But overall, I would say my ancestors do not play a large role in my life.
I feel that the role of my ancestors is very important in my life currently. I have a strong connection with those who have died because I find them closer to me now, since they are present in every living thing.
